Refresh, Refurbish, Renew, ReDesign or ReDecorate - Welcome to the Talk I Walk!

Always remember the five "R's": Refresh, Refurbish, Renew, ReDesign or ReDecorate.

They range from using only what you already have, to changing or replacing flooring, lights, paint, counters, back splash or refinishing stairs. Refurbishing and Reusing by recovering furniture, and then mixing current pieces with new finds can all add up to a brand new space!

I enjoy the process and the challenges of solving the problems but the real reward for me is creating a space the client loves to come home to.

Here are more samples of what will start your heart racing............

There is so much enjoyment and satisfaction from knowing that in this era when  many things we purchase do not withstand the test of time and can be relegated to the landfill, that, there are still things to be found that have outlived their owners use and can find a new home where, in a new setting, can breath new life and provide enjoyment for many more years to come. At The Enchanted Market on August 9th, you will not only find unique and quality treasures, but also find refurbished, reupholstered, and unique repurposed projects I believe you will love and want to take with you!

Hope to see you on August 9th. Click on this link to get driving directions!

Happy Hunting!

ROOM INTERVENTION -"WHY HAVE I PUT THIS OFF FOR SO LONG"?

WHAT SO MANY FIND HARD TO DO -: get help for a problem space. Fear, cost, time are all factors that keep clients from getting advice.

JOY IN MY WORLD IS Walking into a room and never wanting to leave! Have you ever stood in awe at the view from a room or walked in and it felt like you had opened a book that you could not resist reading or upon entering it transported you into an elevated sense of belonging?
This is my own Living Room which has many collections over time. However, it still feels comfortable and inviting when you enter it. Even if your style is minimalist and you like clean, modern lines, there is still the same rules for creating balance and a sense that all pieces belong
together.
This client moved into a small space and was surprised when the room seemed larger with the furniture we chose and how it all fit!

IF NOT, THEN, COULD IT BE:

Your BEDROOM is no longer your sanctuary?
A Before picture of a client's bedroom that needed some TLC.
It made a difference with new bedding, lighting and accents. It now felt like a sanctuary.

Your LIVING ROOM is no longer your showoff?
You may have a room that is out dated, out of touch with you and your own sense of style and if it could talk would say "I am feeling very unhappy"?
This living room felt uncomfortable and unfinished. The client did not know what to do to fix the space and did not have the budget to purchase new seating.
With a quick diagnosis, early intervention, and some special attention you may have the perfect space for an Interior Decorator's advice.
As you can see the space feels comfortable and even though it is not a large space it now invites one to curl up with a book or have an after dinner visit with guests.
Your FAMILY ROOM is no longer your hideout?
This room does not need too much explaining. With a few quick changes it felt like a space the client could call her own again.
Simple changes that made a big difference.

Instead of ignoring the nagging feelings that grip you every time you walk around your home, explore the option of simply getting advice from an Interior Decor professional.

If you believe you can finish what is recommended by planning over time and to fit your budget, this, can kick start your Spring itch for tackling those rooms that you have not been able to make comfortable for so long.

It would cost as little as 1 - 2 hours of  initial diagnosis and possibly a few more hours of actually moving around some areas to kick start your room intervention.  I need you to take notes, be ready to help with the change intervention and have an open mind to possibilities.

So before you spend time and money on what you think MIGHT work, think about the benefits of having a road map and planning your investment over time. This could be less than the cost of a new chair! How great is that!

If you are stuck, overwhelmed or simply too busy, call me. You will be surprised at what can be done!

2 GREAT APPROACHES TO CHANGING YOUR DECOR

DECORATING YOUR SPACE FOR  LONG TERM GAIN
OR
REDESIGNING YOUR SPACE FOR INSTANT CHANGE

When I started my Interior Decorating business in 2003 I was armed with a RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR DECORATING CERTIFICATE and a Certification in One Day Decorating referred to in the industry as REDESIGN. Both approaches transformed spaces and solved client's decor issues. The first approach could involve decisions that would require extensive planning, larger budgets and more people to get to the finish line. The second approach would require one day with an assistant working with what the client already had in their home.

Here are a couple of pictures of before and after of a Sunroom where I REPLACED furnishings and accessories, added a valance and replaced the fireplace tile surround. The client wished for more seating, a space that felt more complete and cozy. One challenge was the size and shape of the space and where the traffic area had to be considered when placing the seating.

BEFORE

 AFTER

Everyone knew about Interior Decorating and Design. However, ReDesigning spaces in one day using the client's own stuff was still new to Canada. Many people had been shy to take the leap to hire a professional decorator because of the anticipated expense. So an Interior Designer from New York City in the early 90's decided to offer an approach that she knew could appeal to those client's that had smaller budgets but needed the help of a design professional to refresh and renew their spaces.

It not only transformed their spaces but also transformed the attitudes towards the Decorating professionals with whom many thought were only affordable for the wealthy.

The following are before and after pictures of a typical REDESIGN using what the client already had in the home AND also adding two new seating and a table and chair dining set.  It also encouraged the client to see the possibilities and instead of replacing everything decided to replace only the dining set and seating. It made it possible to keep the things around her that were precious and meaningful and allow for replacing important pieces that made the most impact in the space.
BEFORE

AFTER

In my 10 years of helping solve decor issues, I have not only changed wall colours, replaced furnishings, flooring and window treatments, but, listened to problems involving space, clutter and function to which applying the ReDesign philosophy of repositioning, rehanging and editing, changed spaces in dramatic and surprising ways.

I have gained great satisfaction helping people with design and decor issues and have also learned that when a client is trusting you with their precious things, they will call you back when they require help with another project or do not hesitate to refer me to others who require help with their decorating plans.

Today I wish to say thank you to all my clients over the past 10 years who have given me the opportunities to transform their spaces. I still love what I do and most importantly meeting wonderful people along the way!
THANK YOU,
